About Our Clinic
Good Neighbor Health Clinic is a non-profit free healthcare facility that was established in 1992. We provide free medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured adult residents (18 and over) of the Upper Valley, living within 30 miles of our clinic in White River Junction who are in need of basic care but don’t have the means to pay for it.
In 1992, two local doctors, Dr. Peter Mason and Dr. Paul Manganiello, recognized a critical need in the Upper Valley. As more residents faced homelessness and lacked access to essential healthcare, they felt compelled to act. Partnering to bridge this gap, they began offering primary care in a modest building rented from St. Paul’s Church near the Upper Valley Haven’s original site in White River Junction, Vermont. This grassroots initiative marked the beginning of what would become a powerful force for health equity in the region. By 1994, the demand for care had only grown. Dr. Bob Keene and Dr. Red Logan joined the effort, bringing dental services to the community. Operating out of the church rectory, they began seeing dental patients — a pivotal step that laid the foundation for what would soon become the Red Logan Dental Clinic. In 1996, as more patients sought care, the Red Logan Dental Clinic was officially established as part of Good Neighbor, expanding the organization’s scope to meet the region’s increasing dental health needs. The clinic’s next chapter of growth came in 2001, when a federal grant secured by Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords, along with generous community support, enabled Good Neighbor to secure a permanent home. The historic Gates Memorial Library, a neo-Gothic revival building listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was lovingly restored and transformed into a warm, welcoming health center in downtown White River Junction. Today, this beautifully restored space continues to house the Good Neighbor Health Clinic, where compassionate care is provided to even more individuals. From its humble beginnings to its present-day impact, Good Neighbor Health Clinic remains committed to delivering free, high-quality medical and dental care to Upper Valley residents facing financial hardship.
None of the work we do would be possible without our volunteers, our community, and our shared dedication to making health happen.
