The Ceil Furlong Memorial Fund

Honoring a Life of Compassionate Service

With deep gratitude and affection, we dedicate this memorial fund in loving memory of Ceil Furlong, a devoted staff whose kindness, dedication, and quiet strength continue to inspire all of us at Good Neighbor Health Clinic. Her name is spoken with warmth by those who worked alongside her, and her legacy lives on in the care and compassion she showed to every person who walked through our doors. She gave her time selflessly, always guided by a deep belief in the dignity of every patient and the power of community.

For Ceil, every moment was an opportunity to create connection, offer comfort, and bring light into someone’s life. Her impact was nothing short of miraculous to those she served.

This memorial fund has been established to assist patients facing the most urgent and dire medical needs—those who are most vulnerable, with nowhere else to turn. It is a reflection of Ceil’s generous spirit and her unwavering commitment to easing the burdens of others.

Heart to Heart International Completes Point of Care Lab Install for Good Neighbor Health Clinic, White River Junction, VT

MEDIA ALERT – (May 14, 2025) Heart to Heart International (HHI) will install a point-of-care lab today at Good Neighbor Health Clinic in White River Junction, Vt.

The HHI lab program aims to improve patient outcomes by implementing timely and accurate treatment protocols. Many Americans delay medical care due to cost and transportation barriers. HHI addresses these challenges by installing point-of-care laboratories in clinics allowing for quick, on-the-spot testing and results, enhancing diagnoses and patient outcomes. This testing is especially crucial for diagnosing and managing chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.

Good Neighbor Health Clinic is located at 70 N. Main St. The laboratory installation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Training will go through Friday, May 23, 2025.

Media Opportunities for potential interviews with Good Neighbor Health Clinic Executive Director Elizabeth Franson and to take shots of the new Point of Care Laboratory Equipment:
  • Wednesday, May 21st from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during installation
  • Thursday, May 22nd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during training
  • To coordinate interviews, please call (603) 677-6322.

Good Neighbor Health Clinic Executive Director Elizabeth Franson stated: “We are delighted to have the partnership of Heart to Heart International to make health equity happen; Good Neighbor Health Clinic was created to meet the needs in our community that go beyond the traditional healthcare setting. Often, the members of our community served in this space face significant barriers in accessing care. This incredible gift and partnership will allow us to deliver healthcare sooner, right here, rather than waiting several days from the time of appointment for results. We can move forward today. By having this point-of-care testing equipment, it will revolutionize our work to be more effective when timing matters for our patients”

HHI Senior Vice President of Programs Tenagashaw (Tena) Tiruneh had this to say: “This partnership embodies our commitment to the goals of our laboratory program and supports our mission of improving access to equitable healthcare in medically under-resourced communities.”

HHI with support from BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) will equip this health center with modern lab equipment, staff training, mentoring, technical support, and supplies and reagents for the first 12 months. All installed equipment becomes the clinic’s permanent property.

With the installation of a point-of-care lab at a free health clinic, patients don’t have to make additional arrangements for transportation or pay extra fees for lab testing. This approach effectively reduces barriers! Provides frequent testing at a patient’s health clinic promoting a higher level of engagement between the patients and their healthcare providers. and increases the likelihood of patients following clinical and treatment advice. Lab tests performed at the time of clinic visits allow for more efficient workflow processes, expeditious decision-making and a better treatment plan. Immediate availability of results allows patients to be treated and on their way to recovery.

HHI Director of the Laboratory Program Heidi Schutz added: “Heart to Heart International is excited for this opportunity to partner with Good Neighbor Health Clinic as we continue to break down barriers to equitable access to healthcare in under-resourced communities by installing point-of-care laboratories in free and charitable clinics. With our POC Lab Program, Good Neighbor Health Clinic will gain the instrumentation, reagents and supplies, training, and mentoring needed to enable them in providing rapid, accurate laboratory results to aid in diagnosis and treatment decisions for their patients all within the same visit.”

A Thank You For Your Support This Good Neighbor Day of Giving

WE CAN’T CARE FOR OUR COMMUNITY WITHOUT YOU

Elizabeth Franson

Thanks to the generosity shown during our second annual Day of Giving on April 25th, the Good Neighbor Health Clinic and Red Logan Dental Clinic raised $6,521—meeting our full $5,000 match from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. Every dollar raised will be used to support essential services such as primary care, mental health counseling, dental treatment, prescription assistance, and help navigating the complexities of the healthcare system. Through care coordination and community referrals, we ensure that patients are not left to manage complex, chronic conditions on their own.

“Our work is directly reflective of our incredible community, every item we use to deliver care is based on our community’s direct support of our work. We all know someone who is in need right now, and through your support of our organization, we are able to deliver quality care and alleviate some of the pressure individuals in our community face daily – thank you for making it a healthier community for all” said Executive Director, Elizabeth Franson, MHA.

These contributions provide the resources needed to maintain access to care that keeps individuals out of emergency rooms, address health issues before they worsen, alleviate preventable dental pain, and ensure that every patient is treated with respect, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. Your support enables us to meet the growing need for care, helping those managing multiple conditions, struggling to afford medications, or living without stable housing or income. You help us be there when a single appointment, prescription, or conversation can change the course of someone’s health.

Our patients are resilient, but the barriers they face are real.

In rural communities like ours, the kind of access we provide is not guaranteed. There are fewer healthcare providers, and even fewer who are accepting new patients. Wait times are long, especially for dental and mental health care. Transportation can be a barrier. Some patients must travel long distances for specialty care or delay treatment because they can’t afford to miss work. Insurance coverage alone doesn’t guarantee access when local providers are unavailable. Preventive care is one of the most effective tools we have to reduce rising healthcare costs and improve health outcomes. These are the gaps we exist to fill, by offering direct care, care coordination, and long-term support to people who might otherwise be excluded from the healthcare system.

Our Day of Giving is just one day, but its impact lasts all year. Our patients don’t stop needing care when the fundraiser ends—and we don’t stop showing up. Our team of staff and volunteers works every day to respond to increased patient volume and complexity. We will continue to rely on our community’s engagement to sustain this ongoing effort. We thank everyone who supported us during this year’s Good Neighbor Day of Giving. If you missed the event but believe in a healthcare system that includes everyone, there’s still time to contribute. We invite you to learn more about our work and how to stay involved. Together, we can keep showing up for every neighbor who needs us.

and Red Logan Dental Clinic in White River Junction.
