Nonprofits Work To Meet A Deeply Challenging Moment

With many individuals preparing themselves for another year of increased costs of living, there remains a growing pressure on community nonprofits. Our CEO & Executive Director recently shared her thoughts on this in an article with the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, emphasizing the role organizations like ours play to keep resources accessible during times of uncertainty.

There has always been a steady demand for the services provided by Good Neighbor Health Clinic and Red Logan Dental Clinic due to the cost-free, low-barrier nature of care. But with the changing landscape ahead, we know that the need in 2026 and beyond will continue to increase. For some, we remain the only accessible and dependable point of care.

Since January 2025, we’ve recorded 5,250 total patient interactions, including:

  • 1,117 medical appointments
  • 1,656 dental appointments
  • 629 referrals for our patients to connect with other social service organizations for social determinants of health-related needs

“There is power in our communities to be able to think forward,” said Elizabeth, of the Good Neighbor Health Clinic. “It is so powerful to know that you have the authority to make a difference.”

Research continues to show that limited access to care lowers overall community health and weakens economies because people are unable to stay well enough to learn, work, and participate to their full potential. Illnesses that could have been treated early become far more serious – and more expensive – when care is delayed. Now, with the upcoming changes to Medicaid, rising premiums for insurance through the Insurance Marketplace, closures of Federally Qualified Health Centers, and coverage losses across some Medicare plans, the impacts could be catastrophic. More individuals needing care will add additional pressure to organizations like ours in order to fill the widening care gap.

As thousands of Vermonters and Granite Staters face an unknown year ahead, know that we will be here, because our belief is simple: everyone deserves access to care.

Our ability to meet the needs of our community depends on the support we receive. If you are able, we invite you to make a gift and change the life of a neighbor here in the Upper Valley who is struggling to access the care they need and deserve. A gift, no matter the size, can save a life.

Presenting For Moms in Recovery- Bringing Oral Health Education Into the Community

Recently, our Dental Clinic Director and Staff Dentist, Dr. Bradley, DMD, MPH, spent some time presenting for Moms in Recovery (MORE), a group that provides a safe space to mothers navigating recovery. The goal of the presentation: provide the group with oral health tips to better care for themselves and their children.

Partnering with Sam, the current dental extern with Red Logan Dental Clinic (RLDC), Dr. Bradley crafted a presentation aimed at practical, everyday tips focusing on what families could do at home. When asked what she hoped the presentation would accomplish, Dr. Bradley shared,

“I wanted to help the moms better understand oral health and why dentists give the recommendations they do.”

She hoped each participant would walk away with at least one or two ideas they would put into action. Practices like using disclosing tablets to help kids brush better at home or swapping out snacks for tooth-healthy alternatives. One of the biggest discussion points of the day? Water.

Dr. Bradley explained how staying hydrated supports overall oral health and helps to rinse away bacteria and food particles that contribute to dental issues. But not all water is the same; town tap water is regulated, but private well water isn’t—meaning fluoride levels and acidity can vary widely from home to home. In Vermont, parents with children under four can access free well-water testing, and both Vermont and New Hampshire offer clear guidance on their state websites for how to get well water tested. Just knowing what’s in your water can make a difference in protecting your family’s teeth!

We asked Dr. Bradley about her thoughts on the experience working with Moms In Recovery:

Q: What made you want to start doing the work with MORE?
A: “Bonnie reached out to connect with someone from our clinic, and it fit perfectly with our mission. Much of my presentation was pulled from previous talks I have given. Sam helped create slides focused on caring for kids, since he has more recent pediatric experience than I do, as RLDC only serves adults.”

Q: What did you learn from the participants?
A: “My experience reinforced that dentistry isn’t just what happens in the chair—it’s also about care at home and reaching those who want care but can’t get it. Outreach like this is essential.”

The moms who attended were eager to learn and deeply committed to caring for their kids and themselves. Meeting them where they are, in a space that feels safe and supportive, is exactly the kind of community connection that helps expand access, knowledge, and confidence around oral health. We’re grateful for the chance to partner with MORE and look forward to continuing to make care more accessible for everyone here in the Upper Valley.

The work we do relies on the support of our community to help us continue to create opportunities for education, access, and care for everyone who needs it. We hope that we can count on your continued support, especially this #GivingTuesday, as we prepare to raise $10,000 to support patient care costs and ensure that everyone here in the Upper Valley has the care they need. Giving Tuesday Is December 2nd!

I pledge to make a difference!

What: Giving Tuesday

When: All Day, December 2, 2025

Why?: Giving Tuesday is a global movement that celebrates generosity. After the rush of Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, people around the world take a day to give back, supporting the causes and communities they care about.

And this year, your support is needed now more than ever! Many nonprofits have seen decreases in grant funding while more people are asking for help. The cost of living continues to rise, and health insurance premiums expected to skyrocket in 2026,  we know even more of our neighbors will be turning to us for care.

Every act of generosity– whether it’s a gift, sharing the work that we’re doing, or volunteering to care for your neighbors–helps someone right here in the Upper Valley access the medical, dental, or mental health care they need.

May Clinic Chronicle

Spring has brought a lot of activity here at Good Neighbor Health Clinic and Red Logan Dental Clinic, all made possible by your ongoing support!

As the weather improves, we’re stepping outside the clinic and back into the community, attending local events to increase our visibility and connect with individuals who might not yet know about the services we offer. In addition to our outreach efforts, we’ve started installing a new point-of-care lab, made possible by the support of Heart to Heart International and BD (Becton, Dickinson, and Company).
