Primary Care and Other Medical Services Begin

In 1992, two local doctors, Dr. Peter Mason and Dr. Paul Manganiello, recognized a critical need in the Upper Valley. As more residents faced homelessness and lacked access to essential healthcare, they felt compelled to act. Partnering to bridge this gap, they began offering primary care in a modest building rented from St. Paul’s Church near the Upper Valley Haven’s original site in White River Junction, Vermont. This grassroots initiative marked the beginning of what would become a powerful force for health equity in the region.

Red Logan Dental Clinic is Founded

By 1994, the demand for care had only grown. Dr. Bob Keene and Dr. Red Logan joined the effort, bringing dental services to the community. Operating out of the church rectory, they began seeing dental patients — a pivotal step that laid the foundation for what would soon become the Red Logan Dental Clinic. In 1996, as more patients sought care, the Red Logan Dental Clinic was officially established as part of Good Neighbor, expanding the organization’s scope to meet the region’s increasing dental health needs.

    Moving To Our Home

The clinic’s next chapter of growth came in 2001, when a federal grant secured by Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords, along with generous community support, enabled Good Neighbor Health Clinic to secure a permanent home. The historic Gates Memorial Library, a neo-Gothic revival building listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was lovingly restored and transformed into a warm, welcoming health center in downtown White River Junction. Today, this beautifully restored space continues to house the Good Neighbor Health Clinic, where compassionate care is provided to even more individuals. From its humble beginnings to its present-day impact, Good Neighbor Health Clinic remains committed to delivering free, high-quality medical and dental care to Upper Valley residents facing financial hardship.

    First Staff Dentist Hired

In 2021, the Red Logan Dental Clinic reached a new milestone with the hiring of Dr. Bradley as its first staff dentist. She brought with her both clinical expertise and a strong commitment to public health. Dr. Bradley earned her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2020, followed by a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Tufts University School of Public Health in 2022.

As Dental Clinic Manager, Dr. Bradley leads the next chapter of the clinic’s work—building on decades of volunteer-led care while helping to expand services, improve continuity, and strengthen the clinic’s ability to meet the growing dental needs of the Upper Valley community.

    Good Neighbor Patient Pantry

A donation from Hannaford at the end of 2023 opened the door to a new kind of support at Good Neighbor Health Clinic: a small patient food pantry. With this gift, the clinic began assembling emergency food bags for patients seen in both the medical and dental clinics. These bags provide immediate relief to individuals facing food insecurity, especially at moments when connecting to outside resources may not yet be possible. Staff continue to help patients take the next step—linking them to local food pantries, community dinners, and public food assistance programs that offer longer-term stability.

    First Vaccine Drive-Thru

Building on this expanded approach to care, the clinic hosted its first vaccine event in 2024. Designed to be low-barrier and accessible, the event offered both walk-up and drive-through options and welcomed people without the need for an appointment. The goal was to make vaccination as straightforward and comfortable as possible, especially for those who may avoid traditional clinical settings. Encouraged by its success, Good Neighbor Health Clinic plans to continue offering events like this to reach even more community members with essential preventive care.

Installation of Harm Reduction Vending Machine

In 2025, Good Neighbor Health Clinic added another resource to its growing list of services: a harm reduction vending machine. Stocked with wound care kits, Narcan, personal hygiene supplies, sunscreen, and other basic health items, the machine is available 24/7 and does not require users to share identifying information.

While the resource stands alone for those who need it in the moment, it also creates a pathway for connection—inviting individuals to engage with the clinic’s broader services when and if they choose. As 2025 continues, Good Neighbor Health Clinic looks ahead to even more ways to support community health, with another significant project on the horizon (keep your eye out for more details)!
