White River Junction, VT — In a significant advancement for community health, the Good Neighbor Health Clinic (GNHC) is proud to announce that it has received official approval from the Town of Hartford for the installation of a cutting-edge harm reduction vending machine. This new initiative, set to be installed outside the clinic’s back entrance, will provide 24/7 access to essential health supplies and harm-reduction tools.
Elizabeth R. Franson, Executive Director of GNHC, welcomed the town’s unanimous vote for formal approval with enthusiasm. “We are delighted to have secured the Town of Hartford’s official endorsement for this crucial project,” Franson said. “This approval reflects a shared commitment to enhancing community health and ensuring that essential resources are available to all residents, at any time.”
The SD5000R vending machine, an advanced model from IDS Solutions designed for outdoor use, will be stocked with a variety of vital items. These include Narcan (Naloxone), sunblock, personal hygiene products, oral health kits, and sexual health supplies. The machine will be funded through a combination of grants from Direct Relief, The Delphinium Fund, a donor advised fund at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, as well as community donations, highlighting GNHC’s commitment to making healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
“The need for these resources in our community has become increasingly urgent,” Franson noted. “This vending machine will provide critical support to individuals who might otherwise struggle to access these essential supplies, ensuring they have the help they need around the clock, without having to wait for someone the following day.”
The SD5000R will be securely anchored and monitored by surveillance cameras to ensure safety and prevent misuse. Its transparent window will facilitate easy identification of supplies, and instructions will be provided in both English and Spanish to accommodate diverse needs. Real-time inventory management will help maintain optimal stock levels and adjust inventory as required.
“The Town of Hartford’s unanimous approval is a vital step in making this project a reality,” Franson added. “This machine will extend our services beyond regular hours, offering a reliable and discreet access point for those in need.” The vending machine’s installation aligns with GNHC’s mission to provide free, compassionate care and adapt to the evolving needs of the community. The clinic plans to assess the impact of the vending machine and share the results with the community by Autumn 2025.
“This initiative represents a major leap forward in our efforts to improve public health,” Franson concluded. “We are excited to see how it will positively impact our community and look forward to continuing our work to support and enhance the well-being of the Greater Upper Valley.” The introduction of the SD5000R vending machine marks a new chapter in GNHC’s commitment to innovation and accessibility in healthcare, providing essential resources and support to the Upper Valley community around the clock.
